My union @DC37nyc handles the prescriptions I get that’s not Diabetes related, that’s handled by my main insurance. I pay dues to them and this is one of the benefits. Their prescription program is through @OptumRX. I have a condition that I presently take medicine for. My doctor wanted to change my medicine to another brand, mostly to see if it will be more effective and I take it less often than the current one I am on. Well, I get a call from my union-you know, the group I pay money to to look after my best interests and I also pay for benefits-and they tell me my new medicine is not covered, and ask my doctor to file an appeal.

Again, it’s a medicine for something I’ve had, and im already on medication for. It’s not some experimental medicine or treatment. It’s generic version of a drug that does the same thing my current one I’m on does, just the dosage is different. This isn’t the first time this nonsense has happened, even recently. The past couple weeks I’ve had to play phone tags with different entities to get medicine orders fulfilled.

I ask: what the fuck good is a union and the benefits they offer if they put up roadblocks for the people they claim to represent? I pay them to represent me and my interests but it seems these idiots don’t.

Nickel and dime scumfucks. I ended my call with the person on the phone with this: “So I’m going to die either due to my health because I’m not getting meds I need covered or I’m going to die healthy but broke because the meds I need I have to pay out of pocket for. Thanks”
